Website spotlight: Sadia Seymour

Tumblr. Blogger. WordPress. Joomla. Drupal. There are a lot of blogging and content management system (CMS) platforms out there right now with varying degrees of flexibility and usability. I have been focusing attention on WordPress within the past couple of months, which this is blog is built on, as a CMS. Converting the blogging platform to a CMS may sound more intimidating than it really is, but many of the functions are the same. Sadiaseymour.com was also built on WordPress. A few months ago I had created a website for Sadia’s fashion styling business, but without HTML and CSS knowledge, it was difficult to update. So after a website redesign, streamlining the aesthetic and navigation, the new website can now be updated easily through WordPress — a common and frequently used blogging platform.

Brooklyn Botanical Garden, part two. Here are a few more shots taken over the weekend. My favorite photo out of the bunch is the second — I have no idea what the plant is, but it was tucked away along a path and very interesting. There are a few more photos that I took of my girlfriend up on her blog — you can view them here.

One of my favorite places in Brooklyn is the Botanical Gardens next to the Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park. This weekend had perfect weather, so my girlfriend and I spent Saturday seeing the cherry blossoms in bloom and discovering some other interesting plants. I’m just getting around to reviewing the photos I took over the weekend and here are just a few. Enjoy!

Digital Photo

In preparation for a video (installation), the past few days have been consumed with editing digital mosaics — of myself. Using photos I have taken, acquired, pilfered, and stolen, my portrait is abstracted over and over again, giving more detail to the individual frames while maintaining some sort of figural structure.

March 2 to April 9, 2012 – Hiatus.

What a March. St. Patrick’s Day in Hartford, visiting Connecticut, an awards ceremony at the Mandarin Oriental with extremely talented artists – Simic, Baryshnikov, Kouakou, Christo, Mari Kimura, among so many others, and just last week a trip to San Francisco for the Nonprofit Technology Network’s 2012 Conference. During that time, I focused all my energy on researching exhibition opportunities and applying to open calls (with happy news coming soon!).

With all that time filling out apps, I’ve been thinking about my work (and art in general) and thinking about new directions. Over the next few weeks, I will be posting snapshots of ideas, photos of interesting things, and preparing for a new series of videos revolving around the themes of identity, digital footprint, and the filter bubble.

Til then, Happy April!
